Why I started Alter-Ray-Tions
I decided to start this business on September 15th, 2025, right after getting married and buying a house. It felt like everything in my life was changing at once, but somehow, it all made sense. God has guided my life since I was a child, and I’ve learned to trust His timing.
I’ve always been curious about everything, and for years I thought I’d never settle on one passion. But sewing just clicked.
I started learning to sew at ten years old. At first, it was just a fun activity to do with friends. Over time, though, I fell in love with sewing, not just for the community, but for the art. I loved making things from scratch and gifting handmade items to my family: runners, curtains, skirts, quilts, and more.
Eventually, I went from being a student to an apprentice, helping around the shop by cleaning machines and making small repairs. That time taught me not only how to run a business, but also how to treat customers. I noticed that people often came in tired or frustrated, but no one ever left without a smile.
That’s when I realized the power of alterations. I could make someone feel confident and happy, like they were truly seen. I could make them shine. Watching a favorite hoodie come back to life, or tailoring jeans so they fit perfectly, those moments are priceless. And I’ll admit, the unusual requests are some of my favorites: a swaddling jacket for a pot-bellied pig, or restoring a great-great-great-grandmother’s wedding dress.
Restoring clothing and “making it shine” is what drew me into alterations. But as a lifelong Christian, it also reminds me of what Jesus did for me.
I was a sinner in need of fixing ,torn and worn out by my own mistakes. Like a sweater full of holes, I couldn’t fulfill the purpose I was made for. Then God sent His Son, Jesus , perfect and holy , to mend my heart. He died on the cross for my sins, but He didn’t stay dead. He rose again, conquering death, and He is alive today.
All you have to do is accept the gift God has given, believe in Jesus , and He will cover your sins with the blood He shed on the cross. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see the holes anymore; He sees the patches, His Son’s sacrifice. You are now a child of God, made new, and able to serve Him as you were meant to.
I love the Lord and all He’s done for me, and my hope is that through my craft, others might come to know Him too, and experience the love that Jesus has to offer.
